Hilrie David Cooper

It is with heavy hearts, that we announce, Elder Hilrie David Cooper, transitioned April 27, 2025. He was a lifelong native of Algiers, Louisiana. Elder Cooper, was born the eighth of ten children, to the happy union of the late Philip Cooper, Jr. and Joyce Alveris Cooper, on February 25, 1965. He was the fiancée of Thoris Kelly, beloved brother of Philip Cooper, III (Linda), Tawanna C. Gross (Pastor Thomas, Sr.), Era C. Hawkins (Bishop Gerald H. Sr.), Fleta C. Stirgus (Elder Jeff, Jr.), Olivia Cooper, Michael J. Cooper, Sr., Elder Jonathon Cooper, Sr. (Terratey), Estelle J. Cooper-Lee, and Ira J. Cooper, Sr. (Toya).
At an early age he accepted the Lord as his Savior and was baptized under the direction of his Late Pastor, Elder Percy Casberry at the Algiers Church of God in Christ (COGIC). He was educated in New Orleans Public Schools and graduated from L. B. Landry High School in 1986. At the time of his death; he worked as a Chef at The River Oaks Hospital. He also worked as a Chef Offshore with J Ray Mc Dermott. He enjoyed working with his older brother Philip whom he affectionately, called Phil or "Boss Hog" restoring houses. He was a former member of the New Orleans Bicycle Club and competed in many races. He was a prolific drummer throughout the Churches of God in Christ. He loved playing music in the church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Living Witness COGIC, under the direction of his Pastor, Superintendent John Pierre. Elder Cooper was a walking encyclopedia of the word of God. He enjoyed fishing and hanging out with his friends. Most of all, he enjoyed and loved his family and was always the life of the party.
He will be greatly and dearly missed by all. He leaves to cherish his memory, Iva G. Green, his fiancée, his entire family, and friends. Living Witness COGIC, Living Faith Christian Fellowship, South Central Louisiana Jurisdiction, Algiers and Upper Room Cathedral COGIC, Louisiana East Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, all neighboring churches, L. B. Landry High School Class of 1986, and employees of The River Oaks Hospital, are invited to attend the funeral service that will honor his life. Viewing will begin at 9:00 AM and the Service will begin at 10:00 AM on May 24, 2025 at the Thompson Temple COGIC, 1515 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, Louisiana 70053. Superintendent John Pierre, Officiating. Interment: McDonaldville Cemetery, Gretna, Louisiana 70053. Services are entrusted to Cross Memorial Mortuary.
