Hobert “Hobie” Ray Winget Jr., 68, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Saint Clare Hospital in Fenton, Missouri.
Hobie was born on June 18, 1957 to Hobert Ray and Charlotte Faye (Clough) Winget in Murphysboro.
Hobie is survived by his brother, Sam (Renae) Winget of DeSoto; sister Charla (Jerry) Childress of Carterville; nephews Kevin Winget, Gary Winget, Jeremy (Katie) Childress; niece Samantha Winget; great-nephew Luke Childress; great-nieces Beth (Dalton) Hardy, Emma Winget, Charlotte and Sophia Childress; along with many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kim Winget; and niece Sheri Childress.
Hobie served his country through the US Army from 1975 until 1978, and stationed in Hawaii. He was an avid Cardinal fan, and enjoyed spending time outdoors, including fishing and camping. Hobie was great with children, and enjoyed teasing and playing with his nieces and nephews. He found joy with animals, including his cats. Hobie was a man of service, always wanting to help any way he could.
A Celebration of Hobie’s life will take place on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at the American Legion Post #127 in Murphysboro from 12:00pm until 3:00pm. Military rites will be at 2:00pm on the day of service.
Donations may be made to the American Legion or an animal rescue of their choosing.
