Hollice (Sugar) Mae Hire, 88 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away at her home on Thursday, August 29, 2024. Hollice was born on Wednesday, September 25, 1935, in Palmyra, Indiana to the late Elmer and Delia (Gross) McGuffey. They moved to Scottsville, KY and later to Lafayette, TN. Hollice graduated from Macon County High School and then married EJ Hire on December 21, 1953. The couple moved to Indianapolis and started their family.

Hollice is survived by her children, Mark Hire of Indianapolis, Beverly Kraemer and husband Mike of North Branford, Connecticut, Sherri Hunter and husband Buddy of Indianapolis, Timothy Hire of Lafayette, Tennessee; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in Tennessee.

Hollice retired from RCA after 42 years. She made several friends over the years, and they were known as “The Rat Pack.” Though she worked full time, she always made time for her kids’ school programs, ball games, Scouts and with her grandchildren as well.

Hollice loved to stay busy, she made quilts, loved to garden and can vegetables, she even taught her son-in-law to can and now it’s one of his favorite hobbies. She loved to dance with her friends in Englewood, Florida and they would listen to music and play cards. She loved to travel and took many family trips and later in life took many with friends as well. After she retired, she and her husband traveled out west. She loved the Indy 500 and all the events in May in Indy. She took her grandkids to the zoo, state fair and Shrine circus. Hollice loved music, especially the Grand Ole Opry, Marty Robbins, George Jones, Willie Nelson, and the list could go on and on. But it was obvious that she LOVED LIFE. Most importantly, she was saved and baptized. She was a member of Brattontown Missionary Baptist Church and attended Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
