Mr. Hollis A. Adams, a life-long resident of Isabel, LA, passed away peacefully at his daughter's residence on May 31, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Hollis was drafted by the Army in 1965 during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany after completing basic training, where he became a welder. After returning home to his family and newborn son, he worked on the northbound span of the causeway and the Mobile Bay bridge, along with other bridges and different construction. Hollis was an outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. After retiring, he mainly fished and made a garden big enough for the community. He always sowed much more than he could ever consume, so he gave it away.
Hollis is survived by one daughter and caretaker: Sandra (Jeff) Terrell of Tylertown, MS; one son: Richard Adams of Metairie, LA; five grandchildren: Joe (Chelsea) Varnado of Foley, AL, Justin (Carla) Terrell of Livingston, LA, Hannah (Brian) May of Sandyhook, MS, Austin (Haley) Thomas of Springfield, LA, Jacob Adams of Titusville, FL; ten great-grandchildren: Sydney Varnado, Paisley Terrell, Brayden Terrell, Caysen Graves, Riggins Graves, Weston Harvey, Rylee May, Grayson May, Drake Thomas, and Monroe Thomas; five sisters: Pat (Howard) Hunt, Barbara (Gary) Phelps, Katherine (William) Knight; Olivia DiVittorio, and Frances Adams; a best friend: Bill Nichols of Franklinton, LA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents: Rudolph & Stazzie Adams of Isabel, LA; the mother of his children: Elta Ezell; three brothers: Elwin Adams of VA, Elbert Ray Adams of AL, and Russell Adams of Isabel, LA; and one brother-in-law: Roy DiVittorio.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Enhabit Hospice Company of Columbia, MS, and their staff.
Brown-McGehee Funeral Home was entrusted with final arrangements. Friday, June 2, 2023, a visitation will be held in the funeral home chapel from 5PM until 8PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 10AM until time of service at 11AM. Interment will immediately follow at Adams Cemetery in Isabel, LA. Services will be officiated by Randall Griffith and Kevin Magee.
