Horace Joseph Doucet

A Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church in Welsh, LA for Horace J. Doucet, who passed away at age 94 on June 22, 2024.
The family request visiting hours on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 8:00 AM until the time of the service at Matthews Funeral Home in Jennings, LA. A rosary will be led by Deacon Wayne Chapman, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Matthews Funeral Home in Jennings, LA. Interment will follow the funeral in Andrus Cove Cemetery.
It is with deep sorrow and loss that the family of Horace J. Doucet of Roanoke, LA announce his passing on June 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was the son of Alpha and Laura Doucet. He grew up in the Gueydan and Lake Arthur area. He joined the Army in July of 1948 and proudly served his country in the Korean War until his honorable discharge with four bronze service stars in July of 1952. He was an active member of the local VFW Post # 3686 and served as the Jr. Vice Commander from 2002- 2003, Sr. Vice Commander 2005-2006. He was also All- State Team Post Quartermaster 2009-2010. All of which he was very proud. He was also a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolars of Welsh and served as an usher for many years.
He was a funny caring husband, daddy, pawpaw, brother and friend.
Left to cherish his lifetime of memories are his wife of 57 years Wilma Broussard Doucet, one daughter Olita Carol Doucet (Barry Daigle) of Jennings, LA, two grandsons, Allen Lakey (Ashley) of Odessa, TX, and Danny Heichelheim (Amanda) of Diana, TX, one granddaughter Brooke Lakey McDaniel (Mike) of Longview, TX. Twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Two brothers Percy Doucet of Welsh, LA and Louis Doucet of Mermentau, LA; three sisters Jeanette Hash of Gruetli Laagr, TN, Retia Conner and Anna Lee Guidry both of Lake Arthur, La, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his parents, two brothers, Alpha (Slim) Doucette, and Doris Doucet, three sisters, Dora Landry, Marie Whitman, and Annabelle Lapointe, God child Dorothy Dale, and great granddaughter Shelby Harvey.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and love to Lamn Hospice for the care and compassion during his last days here on earth. Nurse Krystal and CNA Freida you two were the highlight of his days. As much as he picked on you, he loved you and so did we.
Jen Quebedeaux You are the epitome of a heaven-sent angel. We so appreciate everything you did and thought of for his wellbeing and comfort.
Also, his niece Shirley Guillory, we will never ever be able to thank you enough for the care, comfort and love you showed him over this past year.
