Horst Franz Karl Behrend

Horst Franz Karl Behrend, 91, of Nanjemoy Maryland, passed away on January 17, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Berlin, Germany to Fritz and Ruth Behrend on July 10, 1934.

After completing his schooling in Germany , Horst went to work as a welder. In 1959, Horst married his beloved wife Inge. Together they moved to the United States in 1961 and raised their two children, Andy and Moni in Hyattsville Maryland before settling in Nanjemoy.

Horst cherished time spent vacationing in the Outer Banks, visiting with his family in New Jersey, enjoying days of fishing, feeding deer on his property and going to the casinos. His all-time favorite thing to do was spend time with his family, especially his twin grandchildren, Kass and J.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Joachim Behrend of Berlin Germany, his sister Ingrid Heavener of New Jersey and brothers-in-law Bill Heavener and Jerry Edney of New Jersey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, sister Renate Edney, son Andreas "Andy" Behrend, daughter Monica "Moni" Bowie, son-in-law Gordon Bowie, granddaughter Kassidy "Kass" Bowie and grandson Jeremy "J" Bowie as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family in both the United States and Germany.
