Hortense Burleson Biddix, age 97, of Tempie Mountain Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025 at her home.
Born on December 11, 1927 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Texie Queen Burleson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard Biddix, Jr. who passed away in 1971. Also preceding her in death were her brothers; Johnny, Calvin, Richard, and Frank Burleson; her sister; Cynthia Spratt; her sons; Manuel Biddix, Samuel Ray Biddix and George Hickey Biddix, her daughter; Katherine Ann Hughes; her daughter-in-law; Becky Biddix Hedrick and her son-in-law; Gary Burleson.
Mrs. Biddix was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church and she had been a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed crocheting, working in her garden and flowers.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters; Nancy Jones and husband, Bob of Spruce Pine, Grace Spry of Marion, Laura Franklin and husband, Dean of Spruce Pine and Eyvette Burleson of Spruce Pine; her sons; Timothy Willard Biddix and wife, Carolyn of Nebo and Phillip Biddix and wife, Jane of Marion, her brother; Billy Joe Burleson of Spruce Pine; and seventeen grandchildren and forty-six great grandchildren.
A time to share memories, support the family and receive friends will be on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The service honoring the life of Hortense Biddix will be on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Hedrick officiating. Interment will be in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
