Houn Ouk

OUK – Mr. Houn Ouk, age 81 of Bethlehem, GA, transitioned to nirvana peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2023 after battling the ruminants of prostate cancer. Funeral Service will be held 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2023 in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Houn Ouk was born in Takeo, Cambodia in 1942. At the ripe age of 27 he met the woman of his dreams and the love of his life Heng Som. He courted the young philly and sealed the deal by building her a hut as a token of his love and commitment to providing for her. In 1970 Houn and Heng married and quickly started their family. Their marriage of bliss was quickly overshadowed by the challenges and nightmarish obstacles, starvation, migration, and ultimate survival of the Khmer Rouge and the Cambodian genocide. After several years of existing in refugee camps, Houn navigated his family to the United States in 1984. Initially taking refuge in St. Paul Minnesota, Houn then shepherded his family to Boston for a better quality of life and ultimately to Georgia where he retired after many years as Machine Operator for Diversified Labeling Solutions. Houn was a strong individual and he led with perseverance. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him knew that he was the comedian of the bunch and that he could bring a smile to even the most introverted people. A matriarch of his local Buddhist temple, Houn was well respected in the Cambodian community. Houn overcame many chronic health conditions to include several self-inflicted wounds/illnesses, no gunshots. During one of the many self-inflicted instances, Houn left the hospital AMA to attend his U.S. Citizen exam, passing and becoming a U.S. Citizen in early 2000. Houn is survived by his loving wife, Heng Som; children, Deon and (Kay sp) Khim, Ket and (Tranaise sp) Khim, Sothy and (Ra sp) Sov, Sotha Khim and (Sophea sp) Sok; grandchildren, Patrick Khim, Kaitlyn Khim, Montai Khim, Morgan Sov, Riley Khim, and Lauren Sov; sibling, Hun Uk; a host of beloved nieces and nephews; countless family and friends.
