Brown's Cremation & Funeral ServiceHoward (Sonny) Eugene Beam, 79, a resident of Grand junction passed away on January 25, 2026. He was born on September 24, 1946, to Charles and Addie Beam in Aurora, CO. His family traveled to various places within Colorado as his father worked in construction. He graduated Hinkley High School in Aurora May 1965 and joined The United States Marine Corps shortly after. Sonny earned a Purple Heart and multiple Campaign Medals after serving 2 extended tours in Vietnam. His military career took him to several locations around the world including Europe, Philippines, Israel and Japan.
On August 4, 1972, he married Maureen Beam, after an introduction from her sister and a fellow Marine. Sonny then joined Maureen’s religious faith and was baptized in The Red Sea and later confirmed in the Catholic Church in a ceremony in Naples Italy.
After his military retirement as a Master Sergeant (E-8) in August 1986, he began working for The U.S. Post Office in Grand Junction Colorado and retired after over 20 years. Sonny enjoyed spending time with his family on several vacations, fishing and camping trips. He valued family and loved playing cards and other games with them. He often spent time with home improvements, remodeling and gardening.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maureen, and three children: Jamie (Kristin) Beam of Las Vegas, NV, Stephanie Pomrenke of Belton, TX and Laurel O’Brien of Belton TX, as well as three grandchildren August Pomrenke of Boulder, CO, Liam Pomrenke of Grand Junction, CO and Alysha O’Brien of Colorado Springs, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Addie Beam and his brother Doug Beam.
