Howard Lewis Ernst, IV, (Howie), was born Thursday, March 5, 1981, at 8:30 a.m. and passed away on Friday evening, June 28, 2024, with all his immediate family present. He was born in
Savannah, GA at Memorial Medical Center (now Memorial Health UMC). He was 43 years old.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, grandmother, and step-grandfather a number of years ago; by his paternal grandfather, Howard Lewis Ernst, Jr. in 1979 whom he never met; and most recently in December of 2021 by his paternal grandmother, Sarah Lanier (Sally) Ernst, with whom he shared a very close bond, being the only grandson.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lewis Ernst, III (Lynn), his four sisters, Stephanie L. Randall (Christopher), Sarah V. Mastison (fiancée Carlos Hernandez), Rachel S. Beatty (Nicholas), and Rebecca Ernst; his paternal aunt Sherree L. Ernst, his maternal uncle Mike Hyde (Debbie), maternal aunt Penny H. Gammon (Timothy), maternal uncle Tommy Hyde, and a large number of cousins.
He has seven nephews and two nieces, all of which had a special "Uncle Howie" love, even though he was not often in their lives. When home, he would hang out, play video games, play ball, and just have fun. They are; Triston Randall, Trey Beatty, Austin Mastison, Matthew Randall, Nathaniel Beatty,Carson Ernst, and Lewis Beatty; nieces, Zoey Beatty and Jessica Randall.
Howie lived in Savannah through his school years, Hesse, Chatham Academy, and Jenkins High School, the same high school as his father. He attended Calvary Baptist Temple and accepted the Lord at a young age. He moved away at around 17-18, traveling the country over, seeing many states and developing his quick and sharp mind and wit even more.
He was a plumber by trade, working both in Savannah and out of town for over 20 plus years. His most loved hobbies included video games, music, music festivals, and being a big UGA Bulldog football and Atlanta Braves baseball fan.
Howie was such a large outgoing personality and could talk to anyone at length; argue with the best of them, and crack jokes that were way over the top. He was much loved, loved his family very much; will be so very much missed; and we hope to see him again.
Visitation for Howie will be 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel.
The Funeral Service to celebrate his life will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Greenwich Cemetery.
