WATERBURY CENTER ¬- Howard P. Mansfield, Sr., 85, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 28, 2023. Born in Burlington, VT on April 18, 1938, he was the son of Seth Mansfield and Ilene Gage. He married the love of his life, Marylee Mansfield on September 15, 1956.
Howard served in the Navy from Jan. 1956 to Nov. 1965 working on an aircraft carrier doing mechanical work on helicopters and jets. After he left the Navy, he worked many different jobs. Some of note are helping build sections of both Interstates 89 and 93; operating his own rubbish removal and logging businesses out of his home in Waterbury Center. He was very proud to be the first person to put a garbage container in the town of Waterbury, VT. He also loved giving stagecoach and sleigh rides along with raising Devon cows and oxen pulling.
After his wife's passing, Howard spent a few winters in Florida and then Wickenburg, AZ, where he loved to go to the rodeo, watching his favorite event - calf roping.
His memberships included the Masons, American Legion, USS Yorktown Association, and the Devon Association.
Howard is survived by his sons, H. Paul and Candy Mansfield, Jr. of Peetz, CO; Larry Mansfield of NC; and daughter, Tammy Gibbs and David Graves of Waterbury Center, VT. Three grandchildren, Kelly Mansfield and Nate Pamperin of Fairbanks, AK; Todd Mansfield and Crystal Drown of Northfield, VT; and Craig and Sophie Gibbs of Duxbury, VT.
