Howard Raabe Obituary

Howard S. Raabe, Jr., longtime Easton resident, died peacefully at home on October 7. Mr. Raabe was born in Summit, New Jersey, on October 2, 1945, to the late Howard S. Raabe, Sr. and Esther Tote Raabe.
He graduated in 1969 from Syracuse University, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Mr. Raabe enjoyed a long and successful career as an architect. He was active in historic preservation, participated in local historic district associations, and recently helped to organize Citizens for Easton's 16th annual Farm Tour.
For many years he served as senior warden at Calvary St. George's Episcopal Church in Bridgeport, where he worked on restoration of its historic building. He enjoyed writing and publishing "The Dragon Slayer," a weekly commentary on church activities and news stories.
Over the years, he sang with Greenwich Choral Society, St. Paul's Church choir in Fairfield, The Greater Meriden Oratorio Chorus, annual Messiah sings with the Yale Glee Club, and the More Music Festival in Darien.
Mr. Raabe is survived by his son Josiah B. Raabe of Easton, his twin sister Virginia Hamer of FL, his brother Johnny Bittman of CA, 2 nephews, 3 nieces and his cat. He was predeceased by his son Nathaniel D. Raabe and his brother Patrick J. Raabe. The memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 29 at 1 p.m. at Calvary St. George's Episcopal Church, 755 Clinton Avenue, Bridgeport. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Spear-Miller Funeral Home.

Mr. Howard Raabe was a kind, selfless and generous person to all persons. My entire family and my self have been true beneficiaries of these superior and humane qualities of Mr. Raabe. My condolence goes to his immediate family and to the Calvary Saint Georges Episcopal Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut where Mr. Raabe and I worshiped together until I relocated to North Carolina to work. Mr. Raabe played an extremely pivotal role in helping me relocate to Charlotte (NC) to work. May the Soul of Mr. Raabe rest in perfect peace, among the Saints who have gone before us and in the company of The Almighty God. Thank You. Omari Emmanuel Ansong.

To Howards' kids: I send my heartfelt sympathy and condolences. Although I hadn't spoken to Howard a in couple years I am glad that are paths had crossed through BNI. He was a good man.
