Howard was such a great kazoo brother, always smiling and gragarious, and laughing. He was just the most beautiful soul.

Howard visited us a couple times last fall. My daughter, who knew him well enough that she called him her uncle, was sitting with her head on her boyfriend´s shoulder. Howard asked, "Is that comfortable?" She said yes. So Howard sat on the other side and rested his head on her boyfriend´s shoulder. This is just one time of him being as kind and funny as he always was. Howard, we miss you so much.

I remember Howard as a true original, a modern-day renaissance man whose remarkable blend of passions and wit enriched the lives of everyone he met. To know him was to be perpetually curious, forever on your toes, and always, always laughing.
His wicked sense of humor, he made even the most obscure fact feel like a shared secret, delivered with a perfect, dry timing.
Hours would vanish in conversation with Howard. We'd take a mundane observation and, like a pair of jazz musicians, riff on it until it became an absurd and ridiculous new reality. Those were the times when the world felt a little less serious and a lot more magical. He was a great storyteller, he knew things that few did, but he was also a great audience-he knew when to add the perfect punchline and when to simply sit back and let you have the floor.
Despite his larger-than-life personality, Howard possessed a rare and genuine humility. He had a way of treating everyone he met with dignity and respect, seeing the full, original person inside them. He made you feel heard and valued, a testament to his kind and generous spirit.
There will be so many things to miss: the hours of conversation, the absurd humor, the incredible stories. But there will also be the small, particular things that made him unique. His ordering of the same meal over and over, "a hamburger with nothing on it" and a glass of unsweetened iced tea". These quirks were part of the tapestry of a man who was, in every sense of the word, an original.
The laughter, the stories, and his universal kindness will forever inspire us.
