Hubert Gabriel De Ortiz

It is with great love and sorrow that the family of Hubert Gabriel DeOrtiz announces his passing on October 23, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on May 5, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, Hubert spent most of his life in California before moving to San Antonio, Texas, in 2012.
Hubert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Merry, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and devotion. He is survived by his daughter, Cara Smith, son-in-law Jake, and cherished grandson Aaron, who lovingly knew him as "Popa". He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Olga Ortiz, as well as his nephews Ralph and Mark and his niece Sandy.
In San Antonio, Hubert became a proud member of the Home Depot family, working in the electrical and plumbing departments, where he was known for his stellar customer service, warm personality, and genuine desire to help others. His dedication and kindness earned him numerous awards and accolades for consistently going above and beyond to serve his customers and teammates.
Hubert will be remembered for his generous heart, quick smile, and steadfast love for his family. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back and always found joy in helping others. One of his passions was photography, always making sure to capture moments that mattered, especially during family gatherings. He was also steadfast in his self-reliance, unafraid to complete projects at home or on his cars. Hubert always demonstrated a willingness to lend his family a hand in the same regard. Those who knew him will forever carry his kindness, humor, and warmth in their hearts.
The family asks that you honor Hubert's memory by performing an act of kindness or lending a helping hand to someone in need, just as he always did. May he forever rest in peace and live in our hearts and minds.
