Hubert Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis-Becker Funeral Home - Boardman on Jan. 21, 2026.
Columbiana – Hubert G. "Skip" Miller, age 95, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026. He was born on May 6, 1930, and lived a long, full life defined by love, service, hard work, and devotion.

Skip was a graduate of Chaney High School, Class of 1948. That same year, he answered the call to service his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He served honorably from 1948 to 1952 aboard the U.S.S. Newman K. Perry as a Gunner's Mate, carrying his service with such dignity throughout his life.

After returning home, Skip dedicated many years at U.S. Steel, where he remained until his retirement in 1980. Never one to sit still, he later worked for several years as Chief Engineer at the Holiday Inn in Boardman, where he was respected for his skill, reliability, and strong work ethic.

On February 2, 1957, Skip married the love of his life, Eleanor Kovalcik. Together they shared an extraordinary 68 years of marriage – built on love, commitment, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another. Their marriage was a true partnership and a beautiful example to all who knew them.

Skip was the father to his children, Jeff (Amy) Miller, Kim (Frank) Ohle, and Lori D'Angelantonio. He was always there for his children through thick and thin, offering steady guidance, unconditional love, and such strength.

He was a devoted grandfather to 11 grandchildren, and a cherished great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy.

In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Skip is survived by his brother Richard Miller, Sisters-in-law, Jean Baldelli and Jan (Mike) Giba; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anna Miller, his two children Kenneth and Debi Miller, his sister, Virginia Miller; his parents-in-law, Rudy and Eleanor Kovalcik; sister-in-law, Sandy Miller; brother-in-law, Neil Baldelli; grandson, Alex D'Angelantonio; and son-in-law, Al D'Angelantonio.

Outside of work and family, Skip found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved gardening and took pride in it – so much so that one year his garden was featured in The Vindicator. He enjoyed sharing his vegetables with neighbors and friends, never letting anyone leave empty-handed. He enjoyed fishing, treasured time with family, and was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Beginning at the age of 15, he built a meaningful stamp collection that reflected his patience and curiosity. Known for his quick wit, Skip was also quite the jokester, always ready to make others laugh.

Above all else, Skip will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, and a man who showed up for his family without hesitation. His legacy lives on through the generations he helped shaped, the values he passed down, and the love he gave so freely.

He will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate caregivers and staff at the Woodlands Assisted Living, The Inn at Old Saybrook, and Ohio Valley Living, for their exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided to Skip.

In keeping with Skip's wishes, there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Skip's name to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Dr., Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
