Mr. Hubert Delmas Turnmire November 17, 1937 - October 12, 2025
Mr. Hubert Delmas Turnmire age 87 of New Tazewell, TN born November 17, 1937, entered into his eternal home October 12, 2025. Throughout his adult life he has touched many lives by teaching Math in Middlesboro, KY Adult Education and at Walters State Community College, singing in many churches or teaching singing in schools. Delmas considered it a great honor to serve as a Gideon, helping to spread Gods' word. Delmas was saved at an early age, both he and his father were baptized the same day and joined Rock Bridge Baptist Church. Delmas was a current member of New Salem Baptist Church where he served as song leader and deacon until declining health prevented him from attending. He also served as music director of the Cumberland Gap Baptist Association. Delmas married the love of his life Ruby Johnston Turnmire August 23, 1959, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him were his parents Hubert and Verda Seal Turnmire and brother-in-law Curt Shockley.
He is survived by his son David Turnmire and wife Lisa, grandchildren who he cherished and love to spoil Morgan Turnmire and (special friend), Anthony Turnmire and John David Turnmire. Brother Berle Turnmire, sisters Wanda Shockley, Mildred Haun and husband Gary, Juanita Campbell and husband Ron. Several nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Special sight-seeing niece LeAnn Johnston, Special driver Ruthie Davis.
The family will receive friends Tuesday October 14, 2025, from 5:00pm till 7:00pm in the Claiborne ~ Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services to follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Steve Barnard, Rev. Mark Campbell, and Rev. George Cole officiating. Singing will be provided by Living Water. Burial will be on Wednesday October 15, 2025, at 10:00am in the Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers: David Norris, Jeff Norris, Todd Stone, Charlie Frost, Joe Smith and Clinton Davis.
Honorary Pallbearers: Anthony Turnmire, John David Turnmire, nephews, men of New Salem Baptist Church and fellow Gideons.
