Huey, age 91, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025. He was a resident of Hammond, LA. Huey proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the Hammond Fire Department after earning the rank of Captain. Huey enjoyed fishing and working in his garden. He had a huge vegetable garden that he tended to daily and always had loads of fresh veggies to give to friends and family. Huey was a wonderful cook and was known for his delicious biscuits. He was happiest spending time with his family, especially his grandson. Huey was a kind man with a huge heart. He would do anything he could for others and never asked for anything in return. Huey was a wonderful husband, loving father, and the best Opah anyone could ask for. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan D. Hoover; daughter, Melissa L. Hoover; son, Bradley J. Hoover; sister, Elizabeth H. Emerton (Bill); and grandson, Jakob C. Hoover.
Huey was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie A. Hoover; parents, Joseph and Jessie R. Hoover; sister, Betty Jo H. Guillory; brothers, Junia H. Hoover, Donnie Hoover; and numerous stepsiblings, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W Hammond, LA 70401 on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Hoffman Cemetery.
