Hugh Reed Henry passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 7, 2025 of natural causes in Lakeside, Arizona in the home he built. He is survived by his loving wife Helen of 58 years, sons Scott (Madeline) and Reed (Shari), his daughter Lisa Henry Barnes and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Laureace and son Dana. Hugh was born on September 23, 1931, in Erie, Pennsylvania, Hugh's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and a passion for the simpler, yet finer things in life. Hugh's early years in Erie laid a strong foundation for a life of integrity and hard work. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Case Institute, he quickly became known for his keen intellect and problem-solving skills. His professional career as an engineer was more than just a job; it was a testament to his lifelong love of building and understanding how things worked. In addition to his professional pursuits, Hugh was an Army veteran. Hugh's discipline and leadership skills translated into his role within the community, where he was an active participant in politics/civic duties and served on a School Board. Hugh met the love of his life, Helen, and together they built a family anchored in love and mutual respect. Their children, Scott, Reed, and Lisa, were the center of Hugh's world. He was a devoted father, always present and involved in their lives, instilling in them the values of education, hard work, and the importance of family. A man of many interests, Hugh was an avid classic car enthusiast. His eyes would light up at the sight of a well-maintained vintage car, and he could often be found tinkering under the hood of his own cherished models. Woodworking and home construction were not just hobbies for Hugh; they were expressions of his creative spirit and his desire to leave things better than he found them. Hugh's legacy is one of love, service, and commitment. He will be deeply missed by his beloved family and all those who were fortunate enough to know him. Hugh Reed Henry lived a life that was full and meaningful, touching the lives of many with his generosity and warmth. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of his family and friends. Hugh's passing is not just the loss of a remarkable man; it is the closing of a chapter of steadfast love and enduring strength.

I can't imagine what my life in AZ might have been like had I not had the good fortune to buy the house across the street from Hugh and Helen who adopted me when I moved in. Hugh was my neighbor, my friend, my mentor, and in some ways the father I never had. Hugh was one of the most brilliant people I've ever met and I marveled at his knowledge and intellect. Some of the best times together were spent in his lower level woodworking shop when we did projects. He kept an eye on my house when I was gone, and shared his garage space when I ran short. I will miss him dearly.
