Hugo age 84 died peacefully at Willowdale Health Services, New Holstein, WI on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Hugo was born Nov. 13, 1940, in New Holstein, Wis, the thirteenth child of the late Edward Sr. and Elizabeth (Dorn) Hartmann. He married Delores Faust in September of 1963 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel.
During Hugo and Delores' entire married life, they lived on their farm in rural Kiel. For over 25 years he raised pigs and chickens and a variety of other animals. While simultaneously working the farm, he also had a full-time job as a large equipment operator for a construction company and then worked at Tecumseh for over 20+ years until retiring. He also had a variety of hobbies: hunting, fishing, gardening, fruit trees, dogs, nature, "making wood." Spring 2025, he was still tapping maple trees for syrup and using his tractor to get the garden ready for planting. He also was using his chainsaw until it mysteriously stopped working (ask David).
Hugo instilled in his kids the love of nature and a strong work ethic that they will continue to use until the end of time.
He was survived by his children: Lisa Keen of Sun Prairie, WI, David Hartmann of Kiel, and Tina Hartmann (James) of Kiel. And granddaughter Becci Keen (Russel) of Seattle, WA. And one sibling: Sr Therese Hartmann, brothers/sisters-in-law: Gervase Meyers, Anita Hartmann and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Elizabeth; his wife Delores; sisters: Sr. Monica Hartmann, Sr. Mary Edward Hartmann, Sr, John Hartmann and Ann Meyers; brothers: Herman, George (Magdalene), Al (Pat), Adam, Frank (Loretta), Fred (Gladys), and Ed (Pat) Hartmann as well as numerous other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws.
Hugo didn't want to be in the ICU or any nursing home. But he continued to be polite, smile and "charm" the staff.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aurora Baycare Medical Center ICU, Green Bay, Willowdale Health Services, New Holstein and Calumet County Hospice. They all went above and beyond for the care of our dad. Also, a special thanks to Sebrena for initiating hospice care.
Hugo was the best dad ever.

My sincere condolences to Lisa, David, and Tina. I will always remember Uncle Hugo as a kind and quiet man. He and Aunt Delores were a good team. Respectfully, Steve Noworatzky
