Joe was born in Springfield, Missouri on Saturday, January 29, 1944 to George "Remus" Buckner and Devarah "Gla" Buckner (Fender).
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Joe returned to Springfield to settle down and start a family. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with the City of Springfield, from which he proudly retired. He was an active and devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield for many years.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Carol Buckner (Hansen) of Springfield; two children, Shawn "Chris" Buckner and wife, Abby, Terri (Nikki) Chitwood and husband, Joe; two grandchildren, Greyson Buckner and Kylie Chitwood, all of Ozark, Missouri; one stepson, Eric Browning of Kansas City.
Joe's life was marked by his service to his country, his dedicated career with the City of Springfield and his commitment to his family and his faith. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Klingner Cope Funeral Home Chapel 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave. Springfield, MO 65804. Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. the same day also at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Overton officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery. 2244 E. Pythian St. Springfield, MO 65802. with full military honors.
