Huward "Huey" Fontenot

Huward "Huey" (Pop) Fontenot, a lifelong resident of Laplace, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He loved to spend his time fishing, hunting, boat riding, woodworking, gardening, and cooking. After his time in the military, he took on a diesel mechanic job on the river. After working this position for many years, he and began working for the St. John Parish School Board, and spent the remainder of his career doing so. Huey also spent a lot of his time in the community helping to enrich the French culture in Louisiana by opening his doors to many French teachers from overseas. These teachers eventually became new additions to his family. Beloved husband of Linda Fontenot. Loving father of Huward Paul Fontenot (Sharon), Steven Fontenot (Shanda), Michael Fontenot (Linda), and Anthony Fontenot (Tracy). Grandfather of Paul Fontenot (Colleen), Christina Watson (Steven), Bradley Fontenot, Steven Fontenot, Jr. (Maria), Gregory Fontenot, Juston Fontenot (Ashley), Christopher Fontenot (Kady), Paige Muir (Nate), Austin Fontenot (Shea), Anna Collins (Christian). Great-grandfather of Lucas, Elena, Brooklyn, Lincoln, Ethan, Grayson, Elijah, Grahm, Blake, Adalynn, Hunter, Chandler, Caysen, Cora, Christian Jr., and Oaklynn Faye. Son of the late Aline Berzas and Sandes Fontenot. Brother of Gwen Fontenot, and preceded in death by seven sisters, five brothers, and two step brothers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, October 10, 2025 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, 1900 Greenwood Dr. Laplace, La 70068. The visitation will be held from 9:30a.m.-12:00p.m. Mass will begin at 12:00p.m., and interment will follow immediately after at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose, LA. The family would like to express their gratitude to their church family, neighbors, friends, and wonderful support system during this time.
