Beverly - Ida (Vitolo) Corelli, 96, of Beverly, passed away unexpectedly at the Herrick House Assisted Living Community in Beverly on Sunday June 2, 2024.
Ida was born in Nocera Inferiore, Province di Salerno, Italy on August 3, 1927. She was the loving daughter of Virginia (Brogi) Vitolo and Gennaro Vitolo. Upon the death of her father when she was three years old, she shared her family home with her mother, older sisters Carmelina and Anna and her younger brother Alfonso.
During World War II, Ida's childhood home was destroyed by military bombing but she always spoke fondly of the memories she created with family and friends at their new residence located in Piazza Bova. At the age of 28, Ida and her brother Alfonso sailed across the Atlantic to the United States in search of a better life. She was grateful to be sponsored by Donato Fortunato and her aunt, Concetta Fortunato. The entire Fortunato family embraced Ida and Alfonso immediately; made them feel welcomed in this new country even though they were extremely homesick. She never forgot their kindess.
Ida's first job was at Moore Brothers in Beverly. Throughout her life, she would often mentioned how gentle, patient, and kind Richard "Dick" and Paul Moore were to her. They eventually made her forewoman because she lacked the sewing skills necessary to make clothes! She worked there until the birth of her first child.
She learned the English language and became a proud US Citizen in 1961. She met and married her husband Aldo in September of 1963 and they moved to their first and forever home in the Centerville area of Beverly where they raised two children, Cindy and Aldo, Jr.
Ida was dedicated to her family, finding joy in caring for her home and cooking meals filled with love. Her door was always open and her happiness came when she was feeding people.
"Nonny" loved all her grandchildren deeply and bragged about them often to anyone who would listen.
Ida believed strongly in her religious faith and was an active member at Saint Margaret's Church in Beverly Farms. When Ida was no longer able to attend Mass in person, she would watch the daily rosary and mass on Catholic TV. Everyone knew not to call her between the hours of 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Every day, before she left her room, she kissed a picture of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Ida is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Larkin and her husband Michael; son Aldo Corelli, Jr. and his wife Kimberly; granddaughters, Christina Bagley and her husband Ryan, Alyssa Taubert, Alexandra Larkin, and Skyler Corelli; grandson Cody Corelli and newborn great grandson Theodore Bagley as well as many nieces and nephews in the United States and in Italy.
Ida was predeceased by her husband Aldo Corelli whom she shared 42 years of marriage, sisters Camelina Cavallaro and Anna Colasante, brother Alfonso Vitolo and grandson Nicholas Larkin.
On behalf of the Corelli Family, a special thank you to all of the staff at the Herrick House for the kindness, loving care and friendship so freely given to our mother.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 672 Hale St. Beverly on Saturday June 8 at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will take place prior to the funeral mass from 10:00 to 10:30 am, at St. Margaret's. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Brimbal Ave., Beverly. For those that wish, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic TV, PO Box 9196, 34 Chestnut Street, Watertown MA 02471 or in honor of Ida.
