Ida Marie Geiger, of
Richmond, California passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025. Ida was born to George Boner and Evelyn Terrell Boner on January 9, 1925 in Denair, California. She graduated from High School in Turlock, California and received her BS Nursing degree at Samuel P. Merritt College. She married John George Geiger on June 9, 1947 and they moved to the family home on Elm Avenue in 1948. She worked many jobs to put herself through school, but found great pleasure in raising her family and working as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Brookside Hospital for 22 years before retiring in 1984.
Ida is survived by her daughters: Elizabeth (John) Mee, Barbara Tanaka, Marjorie Neal, Belinda Shavers; eight grandchildren: Christine Hannigan, Fia Lotsu, Melissa Geiger (Chris Robinson), Paul (Monica Becerra) Neal, Chris (Brita McConville) Geiger, Rachel Neal, Emily Tanaka, Jonathan Tanaka; great-grandchildren: Alexandra Hannigan, Liam Robinson, Jameson Geiger, Roan Robinson; and siblings: Don Boner, Jane Howell and Richard Boner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John George Geiger Sr; sons John Geiger Jr., David Geiger, Timothy Geiger; sons-in-law Gregory Tanaka, Kenneth Neal; and siblings: Lloyd Boner, Clarence Boner, Earl Boner, Alice Boner, Jack Boner and Robert Boner.
Ida was an active member of and faithful contributor to her church, The Journey (formerly Valley View Baptist Church). Over the years she taught Preschool and Women's Sunday School classes, directed Children's Church at least ten years and was a powerful prayer warrior. She read the entire Bible at least every year.
Ida loved spending time with family, camping, hiking and visiting places of interest. She kept her mind active by doing puzzles: Cryptic Crossword, Word Search, Sudoku, Jigsaw and others. Ida kept her body active by hiking and walking. She completed the East Bay Regional Parks Trails Challenge multiple years, completed Bay-to-Breakers at age 73 and was a familiar sight regularly walking neighborhood streets for miles. Believing that a source of healthy blood was important in medical procedures, Ida donated more than six gallons of blood at the Blood Bank of the Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association.
While her children were young, she was active in PTA, was a Boy Scout Den Mother multiple times, a Girl Scout Troop Leader and taught
American Red Cross First Aid classes. She played a significant role in the lives of her grandchildren, taking them camping, playing and talking with them. She worked as a classroom aide at Mira Vista Elementary School in Richmond, starting when her grandchildren attended there and for many years afterwards, receiving PTA awards for her service. Ida also loved her great-grandchildren, delighting in their achievements and enjoying the art projects they created for her.
Please join us celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Journey Church, 201 Doyle Drive, Vallejo.
