Ida Mae Lowery Hufstetler of Jasper, born March 23, 1932, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 28, 2024.
Ms Hufstetler, a native of Cherokee County, retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992 after over 30 years of service which began as Postmaster in Waleska, Georgia and ending in Locust, North Carolina, again as a Postmaster. Upon retirement, she returned to Georgia and settled in Pickens County. Adventurous in spirit, her travels included boat trips down the Amazon River, hiking through the Rockies, whitewater rafting in Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina, and less daring vacations in many other states as well as Washington DC.
She is preceded in death by her parents Fred M and Obelia Byars Lowery, brothers Henry Grady Lowery, and James B "Jimmy" Lowery.
She is survived by her children Linda Hufstetler Parker of Ellijay and Chris (Jill) Hufstetler of Clayton Community, Canton Georgia. Also surviving are grandchildren Shane Biddy, Shannon Parker, Davin Hufstetler, David Parker, and Crystal Hufstetler Williams.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Pastor Ken May officiating. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, December 30, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at South Canton Funeral Home.
