Ignacio J. Garcia Vargas, 92, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Christopher House of Worcester. His wife, Haydee “Nani” (Torres) Garcia, predeceased him in December 2021. He was also predeceased by his son, Ignacio J. “Iggy” Garcia, Jr. in September 2021, and by a grandson, Matthew M. Kachadoorian in June 2018.
Ignacio is survived by a daughter, Yusimy “Yusi” Trotto and her husband Michael, with whom he lived; a brother, Mario Garcia; five grandchildren, Dezi J. Garcia, Lucia M. Garcia, Giuliana C. Garcia, Arriane Kladas and her husband Steven, and Michael Azzarone and his wife Katie; three great grandchildren, Michael Azzarone, Jr., Mattias, and Theios Kladas; nieces and nephews. Ignacio was born in Matanzas, Cuba, son of Julian and Maria Garcia. He moved to Worcester in 1966 and began working for Phalo Plastics.
Over his 9 decades, Ignacio built a life rooted in family and simple pleasures. He loved playing dominoes. He was known for his easy whistle and the way he could lift the spirits of a room with a tune, a skill he inherited from his father and passed down to his grandson, Dezi. He will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor.
Funeral Services are being held privately.
The family has entrusted Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel.
