Ike Lewis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beggs Funeral Home - Monticello Chapel on Jun. 26, 2025.
Aircraftman Second Class, Ike Thomas Lewis, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. He was born on July 11, 1943, in Monticello, Florida to his parents, Isaac and Essie Lewis. Ike grew up in a small farmhouse with his best friend and brother, Mike.

Ike attended elementary school right down the road from home at the Aucilla Christian Academy and graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1961. He was 19 when he joined the United States Air Force and served three years active duty at the Panama Canal.

After being honorably discharged, he returned home to Monticello where he met and married the love of his life, Helen, on May 13, 1967. They raised two loving children, Patricia "Tricia" and Scott.

Ike worked as a butcher for 30 plus years, employed by Winn Dixie, Foodway, and Walmart. After retiring, you could often find him in his chair enjoying a NASCAR race or a Florida Gator game. He also enjoyed serving on the Jefferson County Community Water board.

Ike was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Cory Thomas Sweat. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen; brother, Mike (Jeanice) Lewis; daughter, Tricia (Chip) Lacy; son, Scott (Mary Edna) Lewis; grandchildren: Candice Sweat, Chad Sweat, Jack (Lyndsey) Pitts, Jennifer Pitts, Hannah (Liam) Mediate, and Hayley Lewis; great-grandchildren: Chloe and Logan Pitts, and Graham Mediate; and nieces: Michelle Cameron and Jennifer Otts.

A graveside service will be held at Elizabeth Baptist Cemetery on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:00 A.M.
