Obituary published on Legacy.com by Berndt-Ledesma Hartford Funeral Home on May 5, 2025.
Imre Mezo, 87, passed away May 4th, 2025, with his loving wife and family at his side.
Imre "Jim" Mezo was the youngest child of 4. He was born to Vince Mezo and Katalin (nee Bolla) Mezo on September 18th, 1937.
Imre escaped Hungary during the October 1956 Hungarian revolution. He arrived on the first plane that brought in Hungarian refuges to America in November 1956. His new life came with new challenges, but he immediately fell in love with this new country and started to work in his new country.
When Imre came to America, he was already a tool and die maker but rerouted his profession to machine repairmen and machine rebuilding. Everything he did had to be precise and well done. He worked for A.O. Smith Corp. in Milwaukee for 31 years and retired in 2001.
Imre married the love of his life, Catherine, in 1967 after a short courtship. He was the perfect father to Kristina and Tom. Imre was very involved with Catherine's salons, especially after his retirement from A.O. Smith. His talents had no limits. Imre's favorite hobbies involved hunting and fishing, which he loved to do with his son Tom. His ultimate favorite hobby was fixing anything that broke down.
He is survived by his loving wife Catherine, his children Kristina Mezo and Tom Mezo, his precious grandchild Landon Mezo, and his sister Marika Etl in Hungary. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other family and friends.
On behalf of Imre, Catherine would like to thank Aurora Hospice Care for their loving and compassionate care.
The family would like to thank Pastor David Kolander for all his prayers and for the long drives to visit Imre during his hard times.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 12, 2025, from 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, 1650 N Brookfield Rd, Brookfield, WI 53045, with service to follow at 1 PM. The family is extending a special invitation to join them for lunch at the church after the service. Private Christian burial will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
