Inez Ann Gillispie Hand, lovingly known as Ann, passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 28, 1938, in Henry County, Virginia, to Ada and Ben Gillispie.
Ann spent her early years in Virginia before moving to
Columbus, Georgia, at the age of 16. It was there that she built a beautiful life, raising her four children while working at East Highland Church. Her life was defined by kindness, generosity, and a servant's heart. She never hesitated to help someone in need, and those who knew her often felt more like family than friends.
Ann treasured time with her children and grandchildren. Family vacations and occasional trips to Biloxi, Mississippi were among her favorite adventures. She was an incredible storyteller with an infectious laugh that filled a room and left everyone around her laughing until their stomachs hurt. More than anything, Ann cherished life's precious moments, both big and small.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Ben Gillispie; her siblings, William Martin, James Gillispie, Cecil Gillispie, Joe Gillispie, and Christine Griffin.
She is survived by her four children: Patricia Nolin (Elmer J. Walter) of Largo, Florida; Keith Nolin (Julie) of Smiths Station, Alabama; Cynthia Nolin Fuller of Smiths Station, Alabama; and Shonda Camacho (Erasmo Gonzalez Martinez) of Birmingham, Alabama. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Troy Duncan (Ashleigh), Bama Duncan (Tiffany), Elmer Walter III (Holly), Joseph Walter, Lauren Snellgrove (Brian), Ryan Conkel (Chloe), Hunter Nolin (Juan), Beau Nolin (Kirsten), Dustin Middleton (Carlie), Ana Barragan, Joel Camacho, and Thalia Camacho (Aderian); fifteen great-grandchildren: Abrianna, John Paul, Sawyer, Bronson, BJ (Kae'leigh), Abygail, Keylie, Wyatt, Kaylynn, Juan, Araceli, Raelynn, Jase, Lennon, and one on the way.
She is further survived by her brother, David Eugene Gillispie (Kay); a special sister-in-law, Betty Gillispie; numerous nieces and nephews; and many others she lovingly considered family.
A celebration of life ceremony will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to East Highland Church in
Columbus, Georgia, or to Gentiva Hospice of Alabama.
God could not have given us a better mother; she was loved more than she could have ever known. She was a precious light who will forever be missed, but never forgotten, her love and laughter will continue to shine brightly through her family for generations to come.
