Inez Lourdes Varela, age 82, gently departed this world on March 1, 2025, surrounded in the warmth and love of her family. Born on April 20, 1942, in Valley Ranch, New Mexico. Inez graced the world as a beloved daughter of Louisa and Eluterio Varela.
Throughout her extraordinary life, Inez faced the challenges of cerebral palsy with remarkable courage, emerging as one of the longest-living individuals with this condition. Her resilience was not only a reflection of her unwavering fortitude but also a testament to the endless love and care that surrounded her. After the passing of their mother, her sister, Sista Martinez, embraced the role of devoted caretaker, and for the past three decades, the two shared an unbreakable bond. Sista's unwavering dedication afforded Inez a home imbued with warmth, laughter, and steadfast support.
Inez’s loving spirit and innate kindness illuminated the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She possessed a unique gift for bringing joy to others, always offering unconditional love and a comforting presence that will be fondly remembered.
Her legacy of love lives on through her sister, Sista Martinez; her brothers, Ernest (Linda) Varela and Eluterio Jr. (Sixta) Varela; and a host of caregivers, including Cindy (Randy) Varela, Carol Ross, Allen Martinez, Rudy (Santana) Cde Baca, Maria Varela, and Crystal Trujillo, alongside numerous adoring nieces and nephews.
Inez is now reunited in spirit with her cherished parents, Eluterio and Louisa Varela, as well as her siblings Sabino (Helen) Varela, Virgil (Irene) Varela, Eloy (Esther) Varela, and brother-in-law, Silveano Martinez. Her dearly missed nieces and nephews: Christine Pacheco, Leroy Varela, Raymond Varela, Brian Varela, along with her great-nieces and great-nephews, Joseph Ross, Audrey Ross, and Marcus Varela.
As we celebrate Inez's remarkable life, we honor the pallbearers who will carry her to her final resting place: Manuel Ross, Mathew Ross, Rudy Cde Baca, Joshua Pacheco, and honorary pallbearer, Maria Varela.
A service to commemorate the life of Inez will take place at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Grants, New Mexico, on Friday, March 14, 2025. The family warmly invites friends and loved ones to join them for a Rosary at 10 AM, followed by a Mass dedicated to honoring Inez’s beautiful spirit.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported and cared for Inez throughout her journey.
