Ion Tiuca

Ion Tiuca, 73, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away after a long-fought battle with cancer. He was born on July 31, 1952, in Dâmbovicioara, Arge County, Romania, to the late Ion and Maria Tiuca. Commonly called "Nelu," he spent most of his life in Brasov, Romania - a historic city in the heart of Transylvania, surrounded by mountains and known for its medieval charm and natural beauty. He grew up in the countryside of Podul Dâmbovi ei, completed high school and trade school, and went on to work as a mechanical foreman. He also proudly served his country in the Romanian Army. Throughout his life, wherever he was, Nelu always found ways to support and help his family, whether through his skills, his time, or his unwavering care. Nelu was married to his beloved wife, Maria "Nina" Tiuca, since 1975. Together, they welcomed their only daughter, Alina, who became the center of their world. Later in life, Nelu followed his daughter, son-in-law, and first grandson Stefan to America, where his second grandson, Matei, was born. This brought the family together and gave him the privilege of spending cherished years with his daughter and grandchildren. He devoted himself to Matei and Stefan, helping raise them, taking them places, watching them play soccer, and always living for his family. He was also a man who loved adventure. Nelu enjoyed skiing and, in 1973, he survived a tragic avalanche in which only two of the four involved made it out alive. Trapped under the snow for 24 hours, he persevered - a moment that showed his resilience and spirit. In his youth, he also loved riding motorcycles, and throughout his life he was known as a lively, funny, and joyful man who could always tell a good story and brighten the day of those around him. Nelu is survived by his loving wife, Maria "Nina" Tiuca; his daughter, Alina Tiuca, and son-in-law, Ciprian Cojocariu; and his two grandsons, Matei and Stefan. He is also survived by his siblings, Dan Tiuca and Dorina Moraru, along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth, humor, resilience, and big heart left lasting memories for everyone blessed to know him. May he rest in peace.
