Roberts Funeral Home – Hillcrest Chapel - SevilleIona Dingus Hinkle, 88, of Wadsworth, passed away unexpectedly August 21, 2025 at Summa Health Hospital, in Akron.
Iona was born September 8, 1936 in Martin, KY to Kelly and Annie {Flannery} Dingus.
She married the love of her life, Glenn Hinkle Sr., on March 21, 1960 in Clintwood, Va. They left Kentucky in 1960 to begin their family in Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father and devoted husband.
Iona will be deeply missed by her surviving loving children, sons Glenn Hinkle Jr, Bert Hinkle (Robin Boyer Hinkle), and Aaron Hinkle, and daughters Renee Williams (Glenn Williams), Tammy Pateos (Kevin Pateos), and Nola Ann Acker (Scott Acker).
Iona not only raised her children but was a constant presence in raising and caring for her many grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Wendy Burleigh.
Iona is survived by grandchildren Emily Jorgensen (Spouse Ken), Bret Hinkle (Spouse Allie), Jason Williams (Spouse Heather), Keira Niemi, Joshua Pateos (Spouse Jessica), Nicole Pateos (Fiancé Jake Ross), Amber Chalfant (Spouse Michael), Sara Pateos, Samual Acker, Anna Tenzek (Spouse Steven), great-grandchildren Ayden Williams, Ally Williams, Hunter Williams, Lyla Hinkle, Andi Hinkle, Tessa Hinkle, Elissa Jorgensen, Olivia Jorgensen, Olivia Burleigh, Peirce Bertram, and sisters Naomi Combs and Yvonne Mosley.
Iona was preceded in death by brothers James Oliver "J.O." Dingus, Ralph Waldo Dingus, Wendell Dingus, Winford Dingus, George Edward Dingus, and Adrian Allen Dingus, and sisters Ruthie Shelton, Alka Smith, and Mary Baldridge.
Two days after Iona’s passing her younger brother Colin Kelly Dingus joined her in eternal rest.
Iona enjoyed a long career at The Ohio Match Company in Wadsworth until it closed in 1987. She then retired from Gasko Fabricated Products in Medina.
Iona’s family wishes to invite friends and family to join them in celebrating her life and love on Saturday August 30 at Robert’s Funeral Home-Hillcrest Chapel 9560 Acme Rd. Seville, Ohio 44273.
Friends may visit Saturday August 30 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, funeral services will follow 11 a.m. (and livestreamed at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com/obituaries/Iona-Hinkle). Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Following the service, we welcome friends and family from 12:00pm to 3:00pm to a luncheon at the Fraternal Order of Eagles at 9953 Rittman Rd Wadsworth, Ohio 44281.
