Ione Annette Allen Brunt was born on March 2, 1943 in Denver and died on July 23, 2025 in Seattle at the age of 82. She grew up and Denver and graduated from East High School. She then attended La Sierra College where she met her husband, John Brunt. They have two children, Laura MacLeod of Edmonds Washington and Larry Brunt of Spokane Washington, and three grandchildren, Mikaela Brunt, Akian MacLeod, and Conlan MacLeod.
Ione received an Associate Degree in Nursing from Grossmont College in El Cajon, California, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Walla Walla University, a Master of Nursing Degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in OB nursing from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, a Master's Degree in Counseling from Walla Walla University, and a Master's Degree as a Certified Nurse Midwife from Oregon Health Science University in Portland.
In her work as a midwife, she delivered babies at hospitals in Walla Walla and Fontana, California. Throughout her career she delivered about four thousand babies, as well as carrying on a clinical practice. She was active in the churches her husband pastored and with the students he taught. She loved entertaining and maintaining a beautifully decorated house. She had a special love for Christmas, and many made her open houses a regular part of their holiday celebrations.
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at Walla Walla University Church at 11 a.m. followed by a Graveside Service at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Graveside Service will be followed a Reception at the Walla Walla University Church. The Service can be streamed on the following web link: http://chrisdrake.stream/ione-brunt.
