Dragica "Dorothy" Markovich was born on December 12, 1933 in Andrijavica Montenegro. When she was 5, she lost her father to pneumonia. Shortly after that, World War II started. Dragica was 1 of 4 children that Zorka and Stevan Bokic had. Her oldest brother Miodrag died before he was 1. She was born about 2 years later, her brother Dragoslov was born 2 years after her, and 2 years after that, her sister Miroslava. They moved from Andrijavica Montenegro to Belgrade Serbia after World War II was over. Her mother found a small apt where the 4 of them lived until the day Dragica married Bogoljub Markovich. After arriving in Belgrade, her mother was introduced to Adventism. She had been a devout Serbian Orthodox, but after attending the Adventist Church once, she knew she had found the right church for her family.

Dragica met Bogoljub when she was a teenager, while visiting a mutual friend. But they didn't start seeing each other until she was 22. They married when she was 25 and he 29, October 12, 1958. Dragica became a physician in Yugoslavia in 1961. She practiced there until they moved to the United States in August of 1965. (They had won the lottery in Yugoslavia to obtain visas). Bogoljub was veterinarian in Yugoslavia. Their daughter Miki, was born in 1967 and son Bobby in 1968 in Bronx, NY. They lived in Queens NY until 1976 and then moved to a small town in NJ. Dragica and Bogoljub built a home on 8 acres there. Dragica had a very lucrative private practice in Hackettstown NJ. Bogoljub passed in 1995 from brain cancer. She continued to work in her private practice until 2002 when she finally retired. She was 68. Her practice in the tri-state area was one of the largest. If you were sick on a Monday and called her at 2:00 in the afternoon, she would see you the same day no matter how late it made her getting home. Dragica was the doctor you wanted to have taking care of you.

When she retired, she moved to Walla Walla WA to be near her daughter, Miki. Her children (Miki and Bobby), grandchildren (Tommy, Madeline, and Megan), greatgrandchildren (Henry, Dusty, Willy, Cairo, and Luka), niece (Olga) and nephews (Josif, Alex, Boza, Ben, Dominic, Christian and Manual) were her world. Her presence in their lives was a gift. She will be sorely missed.
