Ira “Loraine” Johnson, 89, lifelong resident of Haskell passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 23, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, February 27, 2026 at Haskell Church of Christ with Bro. Philip Sims and Bro. Tim Johnson officiating. A private burial will be held. Condolences may be made at www.haskellfuneralhometx.com.
Loraine was born December 29, 1936 in Abilene, Texas, the son of the late Ruben Ira Johnson and Ethel Boggs Johnson. On November 8, 1958, he married Bobbie Lee McHam in Knox City, Texas. They built a beautiful life together enjoying cruises and many fur babies during their marriage of 55 years prior to her passing February 19, 2014. Loraine proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was baptized on April 20, 1948 and was a faithful member of the Haskell Church of Christ.
His greatest passion was serving God through numerous roles in the church including serving as deacon, bus ministry, coordinating singing school and the host homes for the kids, teaching 5th and 6th grade Sunday School, and for the last 15 years he was very involved with Zambia Missions taking time to correspond, sharing pictures, helping young people learn trades and most importantly, share the Gospel.
He was a dedicated and successful businessman owning and operating the family business, Boggs & Johnson Furniture, for over 40 years. He invested in real estate and enjoyed collecting antiques and “treasures.” He had great spiritual wisdom and would share guidance with family and with his renters as he had opportunities. He was like a father figure for so many people. Above all, he cherished his family and would attend every event all his kids and grandkids were involved in. He leaves a great legacy of service to God, family, and others.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bobbie; daughter, Amy Johnson; granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson; and brother, Hartsel Johnson.
Loraine is survived by his children: daughter, Lorie Johnson and Dwayne of Knox City and son, Tim Johnson and Trish of Haskell; grandchildren, Brad Johnson and Renee of Knox City; Dustin Johnson and Olivia of Knox City, Tyler Johnson and his fiancé, Rachel Richardson of Los Angeles, and Tayleigh Adams and Tate of Tulia; great-grandchildren, Addyson, Avery, Sidney, Skylar, and Talon; sister, Jo Iva Long of Haskell; numerous nieces and nephews; his caretakers, Marie Jimenez and Deb Salazar; and a host of dear friends.
Our family is deeply grateful to Hendricks Hospice, Healing Hands Healthcare, Marie Jimenez, and Deb Salazar for the kindness, compassion, and love of our dad. Your care meant more to us than words can express.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be given to Haskell Church of Christ for Zambia Missions.
