Irene Bartley

TECUMSEH- Irene Bartley, age 92, of Tecumseh, passed away peacefully in Adrian, MI on April 22, 2023 with family and friends at her side. Irene was born on January 8, 1931 to the late George and Mary (Tatusko) Kokot.
Growing up in Detroit, she had fond memories of going to Tiger baseball games with her father. She also had a very loving relationship with her younger sister, Patricia (Polens) Kokot. After graduating from high school, she went on to receive a bachelor's degree and became a registered nurse.
On June 14, 1958, Irene married the love of her life, Eugene Tracy Bartley Jr., and together they raised five children in Detroit and Saline. She expressed her love of nature through many family camping adventures. Irene was proud of her Ukrainian heritage, passing on many important traditions to her children. As part of a lifelong pursuit of spiritual growth, she became a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
After the sudden death of her husband in 1985, Irene retired from nursing and eventually moved to Tecumseh. The next devasting loss came in 2009 with the death of her daughter, Sherry (Bartley) Schreck.
Over the years, Irene's commitment to family, friends and the church community never wavered. She extended her commitments by supporting charities for animals and Native American families. Although she was known for her devotion to others, she also loved to tell jokes and laugh. Irene remained a loyal Tiger's fan, which is a testament to her sense of humor.
Left to carry on Irene's legacy are her four children, Bonnie Draper, Eugene (Dinah) Bartley, Christopher (Beth) Bartley, and Timothy Bartley; 12 grandchildren, Caleb Draper, Sara Draper, Eliza Draper, Joshua Draper, Nicole Horrocks, Jessica (David) Dabling, Russell Horrocks, Victoria Schreck, Jonathon/Jay Schreck, Joshua Schreck, Hannah (Anthony) Raymond, Benjamin Bartley.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Adrian. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Saline. Condolences and charity contributions can be offered at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.
