Obituary
ATKINSON, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Mrs. Irene C. (Sullivan) Bertocchi, 82 of Atkinson, New Hampshire, formerly of Everett, loving wife of the late Eugene T. Bertocchi, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023 at CareOne at Essex Park in Beverly.
Born in Everett, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Helen (White) Sullivan. She was raised and educated in Everett, graduating from Everett High School class of 1959. Irene met her soulmate, Eugene whom she fondly nicknamed Jock at the age of 13. They married in 1962, created a beautiful family, and celebrated 61 years of marriage. They were each other's one and only love.
Irene had a gift when it came to connecting with people. She had a compassionate heart, and a strong work ethic. She worked for Tri-City Mental Health as an intake and crisis secretary for over 25 years. Caregiving came naturally to her, and if you needed her, she was always there for everyone.
She was extremely proud of her 100% Irish Newfoundland background, and over the years she would travel back to Newfoundland, Canada to visit with family. Family was the foundation of Irene's life. Whether it be attending a recital, concert, sporting event, or any other activity for her family, Irene was there, hand-in-hand with Gene. She had a way of making every person know how special they were in her own way, be it through conversation or that one unique gift she found for them. Irene would spend her summers and eventually retire with Gene at their lake house in Atkinson, NH where they would spend time with family and friends. They were an adventurous duo. Whether they were snowmobiling or traveling, especially cruises they were always together holding hands. You would never see Irene sitting around, she was always on the move, making countless memories with her family.
Reunited with the love of her life, Irene and Jock once again walk hand-in-hand. Irene is survived by her children, Virginia Carroll and her husband, Brad of Danvers, Ronald Bertocchi of Atkinson, NH, Jean Caiani and her husband, David of Exeter, NH, William Bertocchi and his wife, Mary of Brockton and Kathleen Lopes and her husband, Manny of Danvers; her grandchildren, Amanda Mucci and her husband, Michael of Pensacola, FL, Missy Sullivan and her husband, Colin of Exeter, NH, Anthony Caiani and his wife, Samantha of Raymond, NH, Billy Bertocchi of Brockton, Bailey Lopes of Danvers, Brendan Carroll of Danvers, Tyler Bertocchi of Brockton, Jeffrey Lopes of Danvers, Bella Bertocchi of Brockton, Lauren Lopes of Danvers and Abbi Bertocchi of Brockton; her great granddaughter, Madilyn Mucci of Pensacola, FL, and a second great-grandchild on the way from her grandson; her special cousins, Kathleen Barrington and Patrick Collins of Newfoundland, Canada, her beloved cat, Suzie and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
