Funeral Service for Irene J. Deling, age 85, of Fairmont, MN, will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont with interment in Tenhassen Township Cemetery, rural Ceylon, MN. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Irene passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson, MN. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Irene Janet (Miller) Deling was born on March 4, 1940, in Antrim Township, MN. She was the daughter of Walter "Pete" and Elsie (Gasman) Miller. Irene was baptized at the family home and later was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman in 1954. She also attended parochial school at St. Paul's School and later at Truman High School.
On October 26, 1957, Irene was united in marriage to Larry Freeman. This union was blessed with four children, Lee, Barbara, Lori, and Dan.
On May 21, 1981, Irene was united in marriage to Orville Deling at the Fairmont United Methodist Church. The couple resided in Fairmont where Irene worked at various businesses in the area. Irene and Orville shared over forty-four years together.
When the kids were younger, Irene helped take care of the sheep, cattle, and horses on the farm. She tended to her garden; a task that she enjoyed throughout the years; and was always on the go. Irene was a Jack-of-all-trades and lent her skills helping build a garage and basement and was even known to do some household plumbing. Her perfectionist nature shown through her meticulously kept home which she enjoyed decorating for each season and holiday. If you were lucky, you got to experience some of her cooking and baking goods. Irene was a very faithful member of the United Methodist Church. She was incredibly loving and kind and never forgot a birthday. God and family were priority for Irene. She loved most the time she was able to spend with all of her family and many friends.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Orville Deling; children, Lee (Janice) Freeman, Barbara (Perry) Freeman-Caven, Lori (Bruce) Barchenger, and Daniel (Mary) Freeman; stepson, Troy (Marge) Deling; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; twin sister, Evelyn (Charles) Voss; brother, Randy (Pam) Miller; brothers-in-law, Russell (Brenda) Deling, and Loren (Marilyn) Deling; sisters-in-law, Joanne Miller, Mary Deling (Dale Elford), Marjorie (Scott) Kittleson, and Lori Deling; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her stepfather, Bernhard Schultz; stepson, Trent Deling; granddaughter, Amber Barchenger; sister, Laurel Kay in infancy; brothers, Harold Miller, and Marvin Miller; and sister-in-law, Velma Miller.
