Irene May Hargy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born at home on Diamond Street in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Irene immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the age of five with her family. In 1968, she made Houston, Texas, her lifelong home.

On April 14, 1973, Irene married the love of her life, William David Hargy, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston. They celebrated 52 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Irene graduated from Bellaire High School in 1969. A woman of many talents, she began her career in the food industry, working at Sacco Brothers' grocery store and Alfie's Fish & Chips, before moving into banking. She rose through the ranks at Prosperity Bank, retiring with pride as Senior Vice President in the note department. Her dedication, attention to detail, and meticulous nature defined her professional life and inspired those who worked alongside her.

In her youth, Irene was a gifted Irish step dancer, winning numerous medals and trophies in competition. Later in life, she discovered a love for casinos, particularly slot machines, and became an expert in finding-and sharing-winning strategies. For nearly 15 years, Irene spent a week each year in Las Vegas, fully embracing the thrill of the casino floor.

Beyond her hobbies, Irene's passions were her friendships and her service. She adored spending time with her close circle of friends, especially during their international lunches, where she delighted in trying new foods and enjoying companionship. Her deep commitment extended to the Katy Elks Lodge #2628, where she worked tirelessly to raise funds for special needs children. She served as Sweetheart three times, including her final and most treasured role as Gulf Coast District Sweetheart. Irene also proudly contributed to the Elks Lodge committees, serving on the house committee and as hall rental chair.

Known for her love of yellow roses, her sparkling outfits, and her collection of purses, Irene brought vibrancy and joy everywhere she went. She cherished dancing, karaoke, gardening, and every opportunity to celebrate life. Her warmth, humor, and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Irene is survived by her devoted husband, David; her loving sons, Jason and Joshua Hargy; and her treasured grandchildren, Dominic, Alexis, Gavin, and Brooklyn Hargy. She is also survived by her sister Florence (Michael Ritchie), her brother Drew (Pam), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who brought her immense joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Louisa White; her brother, Robert White (Elizabeth); and her sister, Linda Coughlin.

Honoring her life as pallbearers are Jason Foster, James O'Brien, Luis Nunez, Jermaine Thompson, Andrew Coughlin, and Michael Jordan.

Irene will be remembered for her elegance, passion, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her life was a beautiful testament to joy, generosity, and devotion, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
