Irene Monica Hubenak passed away on May 11, 2025 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Moravia, TX on September 24, 1933 to Adolph and Sophie Kunetka.
On October 21, 1953 she married Jimmie Hubenak, and they raised their children in Hillje, TX. Irene excelled at cooking, sewing, and taking care of her family. As her children grew older, she fulfilled her desire to attend college and received her nursing degrees. Irene worked for many years in the nursing field, specializing in ICU care, touching the lives of countless people. She was present at the birth of many of her grandchildren and they were very special to her.
Irene enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe, trips to casinos, floral arranging, oil painting, and was an avid reader.
Irene was a long time member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Hillje, TX. Her strong Catholic faith was the anchor that guided her throughout her life. Her spiritual devotion was a strong example and inspiration to her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Wanda Hubenak, Donna Vacek and husband Thomas, Jamie Prazak and her husband Bobby, Bernadette Fiala, Monica Hubenak, James Hubenak Jr. and his wife Mollie.
Her beloved grandchildren are Kimberly Bodine, Kelli Reyna, Ashley Petras, Lindsey Hannon, Jonathan Vacek, Fr. Stephen Vacek, Christopher Vacek, Lesley Prazak, Sarah Stravitsch, Melissa Kalpakgian, Jason Fiala, Dr. Matthew Fiala, James Hubenak III, Jessica Sliva, and Patrick Danysh. Irene had twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Mican and Dorothy Graves.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Hubenak, son, Jimmie John Hubenak Jr., grandson, Phillip Fiala, son-in-law, Donald Fiala, and sisters, Martha Voldan and Elsie Vasek.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Triska Funeral Home, 612 Merchant St.,
El Campo, TX. A Vigil Service with the recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:00 pm and Fr. Clem Quainoo will officiate.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Hillje, TX with her grandson, Fr. Stephen Vacek officiating. Internment will follow at St. Andrew Catholic Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Irene's grandsons: Jason Fiala, Dr. Matthew Fiala, Jonathan Vacek, Christopher Vacek, James John Hubenak, III, Patrick Danysh, Dr. Christopher Stravitsch and Zeke Reyna.
