Verna Svatek Hubenak

Verna Svatek Hubenak, 92, of El Campo, passed away on July 11, 2025. She was born on December 22, 1932 in Shiner to the late Jim and Emilia Kurtz Svatek. She married J. V. Hubenak on February 5th, 1951 and they were married for 43 years prior to his death in 1998. Verna was a secretary at El Campo I.S.D. for many years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #1374.
Verna was a housewife who enjoyed raising her six children and sewing for family and friends. Later, she worked as an international nanny where she helped raise three additional children. Verna touched many people with her kindness. She was a loving wife, mother, and an inspiration for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her long life was filled with her love for dancing, playing dominoes, traveling and attending family gatherings. "Granny" loved sharing some of her special talents of noodle making, baking cheese rolls and dressing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Tommie Hubenak and wife Debbie, Ricky Hubenak, Louann Kallina and husband Craig, Sharon Kelley and husband Kenneth, Belinda Harmon and husband Tim and Lisa Swoboda and husband Greg; grandchildren, Brad Hubenak and wife Jennifer, Stacie Dluhos and husband Kevin, Rachel Schoeneberg and husband Budd, Chelsea Koudela and husband Kyle, Tadd Gann and wife Jennifer, Jessica Morrison and husband Brett, Seth Kelley and wife Kimber, Heather Hagelin and husband Jared, Ryan Harmon, Tyler Swoboda and wife Scarlett, Dylan Swoboda and wife Megan, Katie Peloquin and husband Payton and 19 great-grandchildren.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.V. Hubenak; brothers, Henry, Paul, Vic and Albert Svatek and sister, Benita McBride.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 14 at Triska Funeral Home with a CDA Rosary recited at 6 p.m. The funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15 at St. Philip Catholic Church with the Rev. Dalton Ervin officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Brad Hubenak, Seth Kelley, Tyler Swoboda, Dylan Swoboda, Ryan Harmon and Budd Schoeneberg.
Memorial donations in memory of Verna may be made to Houston Hospice – El Campo or Catholic Daughters of America Court #1374.
The family would like to thank the amazing caregivers, nurses and aides who provided continuous care. Their compassion for our mother will always be remembered.
