Irene was born in Augsburg, Germany, on June 4, 1943. Her parents, Viktoria and Friedrich Vollkomm, raised her. Irene had four sons. The first three, Friedrich, Norman, and William, were also born in her German hometown. The youngest Richard was born here in the U.S. Irene, a military wife, carried herself as a strong mother of four, providing for all her kids while her husband was overseas. Irene and her family traveled to various military facilities from Fort Carson, Colorado, to Fort Ord, California, where they eventually settled.

Irene worked in the frozen food industry as a floor leader at Shaw's Frozen Food, John Ingles Frozen Food, and at McCormick Schillings before retiring.

Irene's passions were Formula One and Indy car racing. She loved Michael Schumacher and Bobby Rahal. She was also an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers. She loved it when the 49ers played the Green Bay Packers because her Grandson, Freddy, was always a Packer fan, and she would tease him to no end.

Irene cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. As a grandmother, she was known as Oma, and as an auntie, as Tante; both are German translations.

Irene is survived by (her husband) William Soratos, (sons) Fred, Norman, Bill, and Richard, (grandchildren) Rabecca and Freddy, (great-grandchild) Summer, and countless others she loved.

There will be a viewing, Monday, October 20, from 1:00-5:00pm at Healy Mortuary in Salinas. Funeral will be the following day, Tuesday, October 21, with mass at Sacred Heart Church at 9:30am, followed by funeral services at Garden of Memories, and a celebration of life at Sacred Heart Church Parish Hall after.
