Fun loving, feisty and free-spirited to the end, Irene "Peters" Wnorowski of Hollywood, Florida, passed away from cancer on August 11, 2024. Irene was 74 years young.
Irene was a free spirit. Born in Schenectady, NY on September 10, 1949, she grew up in Schenectady, attended St. Adalbert's School, McKinley Junior High and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. She started her professional career working for the New York State Health Department. She joined Off Track Betting "OTB" in Schenectady which started a life-long love of horses and horse racing. In 1978, Irene packed up her Dodge Duster with her 100-pound dog Rosie and her two co-pilot nephews and moved to Hollywood, FL to start her new career. For over 20 years, she built "Irene Peters Presents" which hosted customers at the supper clubs in Miami. Over the last 25 years, Irene built "Healing Hands", her massage therapy business. She supported and cared for her loyal and friendly massage customers up until the very end.
Irene always remembered everyone's special day (birthday, anniversary) and always sent the most original, fun and photo filled cards. She had a love of all animals..dogs, cats, and horses. Irene was a ferocious Scrabble player. It was her favorite game, she was excellent at it, and it was impossible to beat her. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her brother Donald Peter Wnorowski (86) of Erieville, NY, husband of Christine Wnorowski, and her sister Dorothy Kompf (76), wife of Donald Kompf. She was pre-deceased by her parents Peter and Helen Wnorowski. Irene is also survived by 1 niece and 6 nephews, 14 great nieces and nephews and 3 great-great nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life in the late Fall or early Winter of 2024. More information will follow. The family requests donations be made to Feeding South Florida at www.feedingsouthflorida.org.
