Irene Zepeda was born on March 7, 1935, and she went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2024.
Irene was born in Mertzon, Texas to Samuel and Theodocita (Chita) Sanchez. She was raised in Sterling City, Texas and settled in Lubbock, Texas by way of Snyder and then Dallas, Texas. Irene had a big heart for the needy and was a magnet to the underdog. She worked in the service industry helping with either the mentally delayed or senior citizens. She was a fierce protector of her children as well as any family member. She loved to read her bible and discuss the meaning of what the word was saying. She also loved to dance and play games, especially Wahoo.
Irene Zepeda is proceeded in death by her parents Samuel and Chita Sanchez, 3 brothers: Jimmy, Leonard and Sammy Sanchez, 1 sister Ruth Lopez, her eldest son Johnny Mata survived by his wife Mary Lou Mata, her grandson John Don Grimmett, 1 great grandbaby, 1 great-great grandbaby.
She is survived by her sister Inez Sanchez Rodriguez, her children: Felix and Filomena Diaz, Anjela Martinez, Leroy and Mary Martinez all of Lubbock, Texas. Erica Mata Cano was raised as a daughter by her grandmother. She was the only mother she ever knew. Also survived by 11 Grandchildren: Erica and Chris Cano, Jennifer Tavarez, Jenny and Julian Aranda, Amy and Tino Lopez, Monika and Brian Gonzales, Shahala & Rocky Tramonte, Johnny and Jennifer Mata, Jermey Diaz, Jordan Diaz, Joshua Diaz. & 28 great grandchildren. And 22 Great-Great Grandchildren.
