Iris J. Bauer 1935-2024
Iris Jane Bauer, age 89, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Iris was born on January 17, 1935, in Spencer, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edwin and Alvera Voelker.
Iris graduated from Spencer High School in 1952 and continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where she earned her teaching credentials. Iris began her teaching career in one room rural schools for seven years and then with St. Anthony's school in Loyal, finishing her career at Spencer Public School, retiring after 20 years in 1999.
On August 18, 1956, Iris married Jerome Bauer at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer, Wisconsin. Jerome and Iris celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August of 2006.
Iris was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her retirement years reading, playing cards, and being involved with the many activities at her apartment community. She was a big fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed watching the games. She will be greatly missed by all.
Iris was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer, Wisconsin.
Iris is survived by her children, Dirk (Debbie) Bauer of Stratford, Dena (Mark) Korth of Marshfield, and Douglas Bauer of Madison and her grandchildren, Phillip Korth of Marshfield, Justin (Michelle) Korth of Hewitt, and Jordan (Liz) Bauer of South Minneapolis, Minnesota; her great-grandson, Noah Korth and her great-granddaughter, Evelyn Korth.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerome, on July 12, 2007; a brother, Carrol Voelker, on July 27, 2001 and a sister, Barbara Nelson, on March 14, 2020.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Spencer with Rev. Barry Saylor officiating. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest in West Spencer Cemetery in the Town of Sherman. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Wednesday for a time of visitation from 12 Noon until time of service. The honor of pallbearer belongs to: Jordan Bauer, Justin Korth, Phillip Korth, Noah Korth, David Weber, Mark Fischer and Mark Korth.
Her family would like to give their sincere appreciation for the care that Iris received from the staff at Three Oaks, Heart Failure Clinic (HFC) and Heartland Hospice.
