Iris Brewer age 96,of Oak Ridge, died peacefully in her sleep on February 21, 2025 surrounded by her family.
Iris was born 1/12/1929 in Fletcher NC to the late Amanda Marie and William Everette Baldwin.
She attended Mars Hill College and graduated with a degree in business in 1949, where she was also a co-captain of her college basketball team.
She moved to Oak Ridge in 1950 and worked for K-25. She met her husband Gordon William “Red” Brewer and married him in 1952.
Iris is preceded in death by her parents, husband and eldest daughter Jacqueline Campbell.
Iris is survived by her son Gordon (Sabrina) BrewerJr. of Harriman TN, daughter Janet (Leo) Egan of Indianola Iowa, Kim (Neil) Van Cura of Harriman, Phillip Brewer of Clinton, and daughter Frances (Mike) Hughes of Acworth Ga. She also is survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Iris enjoyed women’s basketball especially Oak Ridge Wild Cats and The Lady Vols.
She was a loyal member of Central Baptist Church of Oak Ridge for over 60 years. She wanted to thank Central Baptist Church “Go Getters”,for the many trips across the country.
Iris will be remembered for her love of nature, generosity, and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and her family.
Receiving of friends will be held, Wednesday, February 26, 2025 between 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Mott-McKamey Funeral Home in Oak Ridge. Funeral service will follow visitation at 7:00pm in the chapel of the funeral home. A private burial will take place on Thursday.
Mott-McKamey Funeral Home and Cremations is assisting the Brewer family.
