Iris Curbelo, age 41, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on July 12, 2023.
She is survived by her loving husband, Victor Curbelo; daughters, Ivyanna and Chloe Curbelo; sons, Isaiah and Anthony Curbelo; mother, Lucia Rodriguez; father, Miguel Rodriguez; and siblings, Ruby, Eric, Alexa, Angel, Tikie and Luis.
She was preceded in death by her aunt, Maria C. Gonzalez; and grandmother, Maria Luz Fernandez Chavez.
Iris was a member full time in the cancer fighter club. She was in the Spanish club and in the Jordan fan club. She loved shopping, going to concerts, family-oriented activities, Facebook glitches, buying Jordans and taking pictures.
Iris was a teacher at Crichfield, Pine and McKinley Elementary schools. She served in the U.S. Army and in the Iraq War. She received the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, War of Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday July 20, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, Indiana. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Friday July 21, 2023, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, at 2 p.m.
