Iris "Lynn" Messer Ames, born May 6, 1951, in Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. Lynn lived a life marked by compassion, service, and deep devotion to her family and faith.
A graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing, Lynn spent over 30 years caring for patients at Gaston Memorial Hospital before traveling the country as a travel nurse-continuing the work she loved while staying close to family and friends.
Known for her generous spirit and vibrant personality, Lynn found joy in cooking, baking, and offering comfort to anyone who needed it. Her faith guided her throughout her life, from her long membership at Park Street United Methodist Church in Belmont to her later involvement at The Place Church in Wickenburg, AZ.
Family was at the center of everything she did. She is lovingly remembered by her son Jeff (Stephanie) and their children Parker, Nathan, Emerson, Sutton, Steele, and great-grandson Kingston; and by her daughter Susan (Bryce) and grandchildren Riley and Terrence. She treasured the close bond she shared with her sisters, Terry and Barbara, who brought her joy and constant support.
Lynn is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Margaret Messer; her sister Wanda; beloved aunts; and dear friend Trudy Owens Koch.
She loved swimming, the beach, Christmas decorations (especially snowmen!), and time spent back home in North Carolina. Everywhere she went, Lynn made friends with her warmth and kindness.
A celebration of her life will be held at The Place Church in Wickenburg on Saturday, November 22nd at 10:00 AM. A second service will be held in Belmont, NC in January (date TBD).
May her memory continue to shine in the lives of all who loved her.
