Iris Sweers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen Funeral Home - Davison on Mar. 6, 2025.
Iris Sweers of Burton, MI, passed away on the evening of Friday, February 28, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was the oldest of three children born to Irving and Alta Marsa.
Iris graduated from Kearsley High School in 1951. After graduation she married Alton, the love of her life, on September 29, 1951, prior to moving to Alaska where he was stationed in the Army. They started their family there and had 3 children - Carl, Mark, and Karen. Iris was a homemaker for 25 years before going back to college - fulfilling her dream of becoming a nurse. She worked at Flint Osteopathic Hospital until retirement. Iris was quite the cook/baker-her dill bread, raspberry pie/jam, molasses cookies and squash were some of the family favorites.
Iris belonged to golf and bowling leagues throughout her adult life with many of her lifelong friends. She had a love of playing cards with her family especially at family vacations at her cherished cottage on Heart Lake in Waters, MI. Iris loved watching birds on her back porch with the many homemade birdhouses that her husband made for her.
Iris is survived by her two children, Mark Sweers and Karen (Jim Sibilsky) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Phidge (Bryan) Howe; four grandchildren who she dearly loved, Erik (Kris) Sweers, Dr. Meggan (Tauzzari) Robinson, Lauren (Tim) Riley, and Ted Sweers; and her four great grandchildren, Max, Elyse, Brayden and Addi; in addition, numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 73 years, Alton; her son, Carl Sweers; her sister, Irene Kase; her brother, Irving Marsa; her cherished Aunt Gladys Marsa; her sisters-in-law, Marion (James) Magyar and Doris (Wendall) Champion.
A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
