Irma Treff of Wells Maine and formerly a 50-year resident of Dix Hills New York passed away Friday January 13, 2023 after a brief illness. Irma was born on April 28, 1930 and was the loving daughter of Benjamin and Fannie Katz and the loving sister of Bennett Katz. Irma was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and was a graduate of Erasmus Hall High School and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Irma met the love of her life Saul and they were married in July 1960, remaining married for over 39 years until Saul passed away in December 1999.
Irma had a very successful nearly 40-year professional career in the retailing and merchandising industry having started in the 1950's with Abraham and Strauss. Irma's professional career culminated as a merchandising executive for Hills Department Stores where she additionally served as a TV commercial spokesperson.
After retirement, Irma was an active member of the Suffolk County New York Board of Elections.
Irma enjoyed entertaining, reading, knitting, needle pointing and playing cards. After moving to New England in 2020, Irma enjoyed picking out the interior features of her home in Wells, getting together with her neighbors and having a cocktail while telling stories about her family, career and life on Long Island.
Irma is survived by her brother Bennett Katz of Portsmouth RI; Son Gary and his wife Shirley Treff of Milton, NH; Son Bruce Treff of Beverly Massachusetts; Granddaughter Dr. Sarah Pike and her husband Robert Pike of Watertown, Massachusetts; Grandson Joshua Treff and his fiancée Michaela Luttman of Salem, Massachusetts; Granddaughter Melanie Treff of Arlington, Virginia; and Granddaughter Samantha Treff of Nahant Massachusetts.
A graveside service was conducted on Sunday January 15, 2023 at Riverside Cemetery in Saddle Brook, NJ. Anyone wishing to donate in Irma's name is encouraged to do so to The Shriners Childrens Hospital, Vietnam Veterans of America or the charity of their choice.
