Irvin Allan Westerfer of Richlandtown, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the age of 82. He was the son of the late William and Catherine (nee Schwartz) Westerfer. Irvin is survived by his three children, Barbara Ann DeMedio, Irvin Jr. (Jackie), and Tracy Davies (Brian); his eight grandchildren; and his five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several siblings, Gary, Stephen, David, Linda, John, and MaryLou, and has joined several siblings, the late Nancy, Norbert, Bill, Catherine, Patricia, and Don, all of whom we are sure welcomed Irv.
Irv worked at Nyce Crete/Landis Block as a dispatcher for almost 40 years until his retirement in 2007.
In his retirement he carried a business card around that said, “Irvin A. Westerfer, gentleman of leisure”. The back was inscribed with a quote by WB Yeats: “There are no strangers, just friends we have not met yet”. Irv truly believed those words and made friends everywhere he went.
He was happiest when he was in his garden and even initiated a small gardening group when he moved into a 55+ retirement community in 2019.
Irv enjoyed cooking, a passion that he passed on to his family. He loved a good meal paired with a glass of red wine. Those that knew him well, know he’d end a meal sipping on Grand Marnier. He will also be remembered for his unique sense of style, often wearing a vest and Greek Fisherman’s Cap. When working out in the garden he'd always have a handkerchief tied around his neck, a fashion trend likely picked up from his older brother, Don. Irv’s friends and family will tell you that he was a poet and philosopher. He always said he was "full of useless knowledge", but in truth that knowledge touched so many people in many different ways, and he has left those "not so useless" memories behind.
He will be remembered fondly, missed immensely, and will live on through his family.
